GUADALUPE-NIPOMO DUNES
INTERPRETIVE CENTER

Guadalupe, California

Impact Sketch is providing master planning and a series of projects to upgrade visitor serving facilities for the Dunes Center. Their existing visitor center was expanded with exterior lecture and display areas and a deteriorated residential structure at 1045 Guadalupe Street was replaced with a contemporary 2,400 square foot office for State Parks and related agency staff, with exteriors that maintain the districts historical Victorian appearance. Finally a new, 7,300 square foot interpretive center was designed along with associated site improvements.

The new interpretive center is planned around an interactive educational display and auditorium and includes a high loft for viewing the dunes, with a panoramic periscope as part of the universal design strategy for disabled users. The building incorporates state-of-the-art sustainable features and borrows its materials palette from nearby agricultural packing structures. Funding for construction of the interpretive center is pending.
