casa antigua
Antigua, Guatemala

Over a period of nearly 20 years
Impact Sketch provided architectural and construction administration services
for the Casa Antigua project, the
restoration and reconstruction of a
200+ year old courtyard mansion in
the ancient capital of Guatamala, for
an American antiquities collector.

Among the improvements at Casa Antigua was the replacement of the majority of one of the structures three wings to incorporate a large grand room and attendant spaces. Design tasks involved extensive historic research and included elements such as hand-carved and gilded Moorish ceilings, hand-carved stonework produced in England and delivered to the site, and the incorporation of numerous European and Guatemalan architectural antiques into both interiors and exteriors.

Along with reconstruction the complex
was structurally retrofitted to California standards to resist the earthquakes common in Antigua.
